A dental sealant is a special epoxy material that acts as a barrier against plaque, acids, and decay-causing bacteria. It is estimated that at least half of all decay starts in microscopic cracks on the chewing surfaces of teeth. These cracks are so small that not even a single toothbrush bristle can reach them. It’s only a matter of time before decay sets in.
Decay Prevention
Protective Sealants are usually applied to the chewing surfaces of the back teeth (molars and premolars) where decay occurs most often. The bonding action of the resin seals the pits and fissures and prevents decay.
Simple Procedure
It takes only a few minutes to prepare and seal each tooth. Dr. Foutz uses the new Waterlase™ dental laser which sterilizes the tooth and maximizes the bonding action. The Protective Sealant is then applied to the tooth surface where it bonds directly to the enamel and hardens.
Not Just for Kids Anymore
Historically, sealants have only been placed on children’s teeth. By adulthood, the pits and fissures that occur in everyone’s teeth have become so firmly ‘packed’ with debris and bacteria that placement of sealants over this debris were unsuccessful.
But now, with the use of the Waterlase™ technique, this firmly-packed debris can be precisely removed, thus affording adults the same sealant protection against decay as children.
